Lessons
from current corona virus pandemic
Unlike the 1918-1920
Spanish Flu , with claim an estimated 20million to 50 million victims
worldwide, other estimates run as high as 100 million victims- around 3% of the
world population. The difference is, in 2020, we have greater access to instant
information by google, whatsapp and other digital hand held devices in our
hands if we have a desire to get ready update. The problem with too much
information is the difficulty of establishing what is fact and truth in the widely circulated content in the mass media, information over drive that assault us daily.
In our present age, we are also suppose to be more intelligent in
acquiring scientific facts on health
matters and issues. But, the truth is
such life saving,, cost reduction knowledge in hospital bills, and surgical
procedures are not in the minds and
heart of the masses. Unless one reads, get regular updates and supplies from principle, honest and scientific facts driven sources. Which are very few and hard to
access for many.
Perhaps, it is too early to get the full value of a
post mortem exercise at this time, as
the pandemic is far from over, except in Wuhan, where the first case was reported and circulated in the world
media. Nevertheless, there are lessons to be gained from what have already happened and recorded in the battle front for
learning and future preparation if
similar future crisis of this magnitude
manifests again.
First, we are pretty easy going and relax about the
general health status of the population as a whole. There is very little
preventive health education for the masses. We assume, the population’s
health is robust and
pays little attention to the need to enhance the health status of entire nation. On the individual, personal level most people are complacent about the
own health as long as they can still work ,sleep and eat daily. The frightening
truth is most non-communicable diseases such as heart disease, strokes and even
cancers have very little signs or early symptoms manifesting in the body of the
victims, until they are in the advanced stage of illness. The fast and furious speed of
spreading virus among the population is a sign that the immune system of the
most living persons around us, is far
from sound and vulnerable to be a victim once the pandemic hits the masses. We
need to be body conscious and health sensitive to keep our immune system
functioning and battle ready. Starting from now, perhaps we can begin from
our own little circle of influence within the family. The head of the
family, the father who operates his own family unit can start to do some home
work and research on building a
foundation of life saving immune health
for all seasons. Paying attention to
matters such as quality of food, mental health, exercise, sleep pattern,
avoiding toxins in air, electronic smog, water quality, mindfulness over health
damaging living such as stress, body elimination stool observation, injurious
indulgence such as excessive consumption wines, coffee or sugar. Regular and
complete health screening such as
periodic analysis of hair sample, DNA
profiling and other related health
screening. Health and life within the inner world cannot be outsourced and
delegated to another.
Second, what are the contributing and direct causes
of poor health in population? We need to see the big picture and also zero
in the specific that damage our health.
For a start, let us consider our agricultural
philosophy in mass production of crops, grains, meat, poultry, and other food
items. The use of chemical fertilizer, pesticides, profitability above all in
food production. Harvesting, storage, distribution
method, manufacturing, and quality of the food when its reaching the consumers.
A rethink of changing the marketing of
ready to consume food items. A bold front of education in the art and science of eating. A personalized,
tailored made nutrition recipe according to the individual needs of the person.
Prescription nutrition to maximize the body’s need for minerals,
vitamins, trace elements, micronutrients for perfect digestion, absorption of elements according to the needs of the moment.
Third, all
the experts opinions about the overall safety of long term effects of consuming every
food items with added
preservatives, stabilisers, food dyes, taste enhances, food substitutes,
anticaking agents, and other chemical such as artificial sweetener and GMO food. If all these current manufacturing
processes and non-food chemicals use in the food industry were all perfectly
absolutely safe and free from side
effects, how come there are so many deaths in the world mortality table? Can www.worldlifeexpectancy.com statistics
on the world death by diseases, population,-age , country by country be
false?
Fourth, return to nature and live in harmony with
laws of life as manifested in the lives of
pocket of human habitations that live beyond their 100s. Okinawa, Sardinia,Loma
Linda, Nicoya, and Ikaria have much to offer us who wish to live beyond 100.
People don’t die, they kill themselves by careless and lawless in their daily living. Those who live long, healthy and sickness
free life have much to offer us who wish to duplicate such lives. Whatever,
drugs that we take to reduce the ill effects of sickness, has no safety limit,
and in the long term, the side effects will manifest after it was approved by
the authority to be safe. For example, WHO has warned the extra risk of taking
ibuprofen which increases the death rate for those infected with corona virus.
This anti-inflammatory drug could worsen effects of the virus. All drugs are
unnatural and do not have the safety of food such as turmeric or Vitamic C from
fruits to boost our immune system.
Fifth, what is the purpose of life? To live long for
the sake occupying a space, take in food for the sake of enjoyment, living a
life without purpose and meaning, going on living without a reason and purpose
can be as vain as cancer cells, multiplying and growing for the sake of
increasing in number, can be a useless life, no matter how long. A divine spark
that encourages, long useful and meaningful life without diseases and suffering in one’s old age, must centre on a
reason, a purpose. The why is very important, if we want to live for a
significant, transcendental purpose. To
help us live long, meaningful life we need to find out our calling in life, find a place in society
in which we can play a significant role to uplift humanity, then living a long
life is a bonus.
